Why Winter Is a Smart Time to Begin Your Pool Design

Demand for pool and landscape design naturally surges in the spring and summer. By fall and winter, demand slows. This allows you to get ahead of the spring rush, eliminating unnecessary delays and potentially enjoying faster permit approvals. Designing your project in winter means it can be completed before the following summer.

With time on your side, you can research ideas and photos for as long as it takes to create something truly special, because landscape design for pools requires thoughtful planning.

Establishing Design Goals

Every successful pool project begins with a desired aesthetic.

Are you planning a resort-style pool with sculptural features, fountains, and a waterfall? A family-friendly play area that’s a little less formal but ideal for your kids and their friends? Maybe you’d like to recreate the outdoor design of a European resort, French Polynesian hideaway, or ultra-modern Greek Island escape. You’re limited only by your imagination, and when you evaluate your options in winter, you have ample time to decide.

Permits & Paperwork

In addition to the architectural features of your pool and surrounding landscaping, you’ll also need to obtain the appropriate permits. By setting this process in motion now, your swimming pool design can pass through the required site survey, safety evaluations, and various stages of inspections more quickly.

Our team is here to explain every step, take care of the application process, and manage all paperwork and approvals. Meanwhile, we encourage you to sit back and watch your dream backyard take shape.

Accessing High-Quality Materials

When you plan your pool build in winter, you’ll have faster access to the best types of materials and finishes. Both fiberglass and gunite pool materials tend to have significantly longer lead times in the summer in Nashville. So are porcelain pavers, natural stone such as travertine and limestone, and glass tiles for decorative accents. By getting your order in during the off-season, you jump to the head of the line.

Comprehensive Pool & Landscape Integration

When a brand-new pool becomes a focal point in your backyard, it can’t look like an afterthought. This is why partnering with contractors who have the skills, know-how, and vision needed to integrate an exquisite design plan with your home’s current architecture is vital. At Landscape Solutions, we ensure your layout is balanced, beautiful, and purposeful.

We consider details such as sightlines and privacy, spatial flow, surrounding gardens and landscaping, appropriate plantings for our Nashville seasons, and hardscaping elements that anchor each space and enable seamless transitions across multiple zones. And then of course there’s lighting, furnishings, and accessories.

Inspired Design for a Home-Based Retreat

One of our standout pool projects completed for a Nashville family reimagined an entire backyard to create a resort-style living environment at home. We installed a fiberglass pool with luxurious architectural elements, a spillover spa, and elegant fountains. This was bookended by a bocce/cornhole court at one end, and a seating area with a natural stone fire pit framed by native gardens at the other.

Along the lengths of the decks we added side-by side chaise lounges with large sun umbrellas. We also incorporated multi-level seating areas, evergreen privacy plantings, and surrounding softscape elements to punctuate a Mediterranean meets Martha’s Vineyard aesthetic. Our color scheme contrasted beautifully with the lush green surroundings and natural wood patios while complementing the cool blue color of the water. The result was an exquisite retreat that is as inviting for family living and dining as it is for entertaining.

Your Pool, Landscaping, and Garden Oasis

Our designers understand that a cohesive pool, landscape, and garden layout involves a range of details and considerations—more than just the raw materials that create a pool and a deck.

A blend of native plantings like Joe Pye Weed for pollinators, fragrant Sumac Gro-Low prized for its brilliant fall color, and Little Bluestem Grass, as well as Techo-Bloc features such as high-strength pavers, pool coping, and patio slabs, can all contribute to a stunning, long-lasting backyard retreat. Our integrations deliver on texture, stormwater control, and on creating a welcoming habitat for Middle Tennessee’s butterflies and birds.

A considered blend of landscape design for pool construction creates outdoor spaces that feel intentional, organic, warm, and welcoming.
