Size and Shape
The size and shape of your pool will be determined by many things, starting with how big your property is. You will also need to consider easements, space between your house and your pool, and whether there are any other things you want in your backyard paradise.
Additional considerations are the location of trees and other obstructions, whether there is a sprinkler system, and where utilities run. While you must consider these things, they don’t have to put an end to your dream of installing a pool in your yard. Many of these things can be handled in a way that keeps your dream pool possible. It is essential to bring in an expert to help you navigate it all. Landscape Solutions is ready to help!
Choices, Choices!
There are three main types of in-ground pools. Each type of pool has its pros and cons. Deciding on which is right for you will take some research and the advice of an expert.
Vinyl Pools
Vinyl pools are a great choice for many homeowners. Typically, these pools cost the least and can be installed fairly quickly, letting you dive in within two to three weeks. They are somewhat customizable because they are assembled in pieces, meaning you can design a pool that is more than just a rectangle.
Some of the downsides of vinyl pools are:
- these pools are prone to algae growth in the area where pieces are seamed together
- They are susceptible to damage from things in the ground under and around them
- Even without damage from hidden rocks and such, you have to replace the liner every 5-9 years.
Fiberglass Pools
Fiberglass pools are a great option for most. The real downside to them is that they are prefabricated and you have a limited choice for the size and shape of your pool. And while this is a consideration, there are many styles available from a variety of manufacturers, meaning you are likely to find one you love.
Pros for fiberglass pools include:
- The cost is in-between that of vinyl and concrete.
- Since they are molded in one piece, they don’t have seams that encourage algae growth
- Fiberglass construction means they are not particularly vulnerable to things in the ground like rocks and such.
- Even though styles can be limited, fiberglass pools can be some of the most aesthetically pleasing pools available.
- They are quite durable, lasting as long as concrete pools
Like vinyl pools, these are usually installed pretty quickly, normally taking between three and five weeks.
Concrete Pools
Concrete pools are extremely durable and long-lasting, with an average lifespan of about 30 years. These pools offer the most customization possible, limited only by your imagination!
When comparing options, the disadvantages of concrete pools are:
- They are the most expensive of the three pool types
- Concrete pools take the longest to install. Once the concrete is poured, it needs to set for four full weeks before water can be added. This means a concrete pool takes six to twelve weeks from start to finish.
- They typically need resurfacing every ten years or so
Installation
Once you’ve determined which pool type is best for you and selected the perfect location for your in-ground pool, it’s time to start the installation process. The first step your professional installer will take is to dig out the site for your pool.
After the excavation is complete, the next step is to install the pool liner. Taking care of the plumbing starts once that installation is complete (remember, up to 28 days for concrete pools!). Then it’s time to fill up the pool. This can take anywhere from twelve hours to three or four days, depending on the size of the pool.
Once the liner is installed, you can add the finishing touches to your in-ground pool, like decking, coping, and landscaping. These finishing touches will make your pool look and feel like a luxurious oasis.
Installing an In-ground pool is a big investment, but it will pay off for years to come. With proper care and maintenance, your in-ground pool will provide you with a lifetime of enjoyment.
